Text 7A2-I

If we believe that our own information age is defined by the digital structures of electronic communication, we must take early modern culture as inextricably bound to the medium of print. Printed text and image arose within a few years of each other in the mid-fifteenth century, credited to the German goldsmith Johannes Gutenberg, who seemingly drew together a series of extant yet disparate technologies into a new machine that could print several thousand sheets a day. The ancient oil or wine press, the goldsmith’s craft in fine metal carving, the late-medieval development of plentiful rag paper, and the recent formulation of more stable oil-based inks enabled Gutenberg’s ‘revolution’.

Similarly, early photography developed from a coming together of two otherwise disparate technologies: on the one hand, the pinhole camera through which capture a refected view of the world as an image, and on the other the chemical means to fix the effects of light exposure on paper. In both cases, these technologies shared aesthetic resources with other media available at the time, while also producing forms of representation that were uniquely theirs, and which offered access to new ways of seeing, and enabled new forms of subjectivity. The greatly expanded flow of visual information facilitated by these technological breakthroughs worked to quicken the circulation of knowledge, and the foundations of thought itself.

Pronomes em inglês: classificação morfológica

Gabarito: letra C. Na frase "which offered access", o termo "which" é um pronome relativo, retomando "forms of representation" e introduzindo uma oração adjetiva. As demais alternativas erram ao classificar "breakthroughs" (não é coinagem), "that" (é relativo, não demonstrativo), "itself" (intensivo, não reflexivo) e "these" (demonstrativo, não quantificador).

A questão exige identificar corretamente a classe gramatical das palavras destacadas nas duas últimas frases do texto. Vamos analisar cada alternativa:

1Relativos
that (oração restritiva)
which (oração adjetiva)
2Demonstrativos
this / that / these / those
Determinante (antes de substantivo)
Pronome (sozinho)
3Reflexivos
myself / yourself / itself
Sujeito = objeto da ação
4Intensivos
myself / yourself / itself
Ênfase, sem ação reflexiva
5Quantificadores
some / many / few / several
Indicam quantidade imprecisa

Pronomes em inglês: Relativos (that (oração restritiva), which (oração adjetiva)); Demonstrativos (this / that / these / those, Determinante (antes de substantivo), Pronome (sozinho)); Reflexivos (myself / yourself / itself, Sujeito = objeto da ação); Intensivos (myself / yourself / itself, Ênfase, sem ação reflexiva); Quantificadores (some / many / few / several, Indicam quantidade imprecisa)

Alternativa A — ❌ Incorreta

A palavra "breakthroughs" é um substantivo composto comum (break + through), consagrado pelo uso, e não um neologismo (coinage). Coinage refere-se à invenção de uma palavra totalmente nova, o que não se aplica aqui.

Alternativa B — ❌ Incorreta

Em "that were uniquely theirs", o "that" inicia uma oração relativa restritiva ("that were uniquely theirs"), modificando "forms of representation". Portanto, é um pronome relativo, e não demonstrativo. Os pronomes demonstrativos (this, that, these, those) funcionam como sujeito ou objeto por si mesmos (ex.: "That is good").

Alternativa C — ✅ Correta ⟵ GABARITO

"Which" em "which offered access" é claramente um pronome relativo, referindo-se a "forms of representation" (ou "technologies") e ligando a oração subordinada. A função relativa é inequívoca.

Alternativa D — ❌ Incorreta

"Itself" em "the foundations of thought itself" é um pronome intensivo (ou enfático), empregado para dar ênfase ao substantivo "thought". Sua função não é reflexiva, pois não indica que o sujeito pratica e sofre a ação — não há verbo reflexivo associado. Os pronomes reflexivos (myself, yourself, itself...) são usados quando o sujeito e o objeto coincidem (ex.: "The machine turned itself off").

Alternativa E — ❌ Incorreta

"These" em "these technological breakthroughs" é um determinante demonstrativo (ou adjetivo demonstrativo), que aponta para um referente específico. Não é um quantificador: quantificadores (some, many, few, several) indicam quantidade imprecisa. "These" indica quais, não quantos.

Gabarito: letra C.
