The occasion was the royal wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Since its humble beginnings in Munich, Oktoberfest has spread its joy and celebrations across the globe. Many countries and cities with significant German communities have adopted this tradition and made it their own. In the United States, cities like Cincinnati, Ohio, and Denver, Colorado, host their own versions of Oktoberfest, attracting people from all walks of life. Canada, Brazil, Australia, and even parts of Asia, such as Hong Kong and Singapore, also join in the festivities.

Oktoberfest is more than just a beer festival; it's a vibrant celebration of Bavarian culture. The traditional way to kick off the event is with the tapping of the first keg by the current mayor of Munich before everyone can start pouring themselves a drink. People come dressed in traditional German clothing, including lederhosen for men and dirndls for women.
