The transformation of work in Brazil has taken on institutional dimensions in this final stretch of 2025. The Senate’s Constitution and Justice Committee approved a proposed constitutional amendment that could eliminate the 6x1 work schedule and reduce the weekly work hours from 44 to 36, without loss of pay, soon. The Federal Government, aligned with this issue, has publicly declared its support for ending this model, reflecting a trend already consolidated in society: more than 70% of Brazilians support structural changes in work schedules. This is not just about updating legislation – it is a deeper movement that redefines the relationship between productivity, health, and well-being.
The 6x1 work schedule marked generations of professionals, especially in the service, retail, hospitality, and continuous operations sectors. However, in a scenario where technology, consumption, and social expectations evolve rapidly, maintaining models that value working hours over the quality of delivery has become incompatible with the current market dynamics.
Companies across various sectors have already begun this movement. Employees are increasingly resistant to accepting exhausting schedules, and some segments are facing labor shortages because they haven’t yet adapted to new standards. The fact is that wellrested teams perform better, produce more consistently, and stay in their jobs longer. Reducing working hours doesn’t decrease productivity; it improves energy distribution and focus. Therefore, many organizations are abandoning the 6x1 schedule even before any legal imposition: there are clear operational gains.
